In the field a protection rating of IP65 or higher is mandytory. Sensors, aktuators or field devices can be connected via a ‘vampire contact technology’ at any point along the AS-Interface yellow cable. Due to the asymmetric cable profile faulty connections are not possible. Cable confectioning is not necessary.

Inside switching cabinets and in other places where protection rating IP20 is sufficient a similarly simple and cost efficient solution will be available in the future:
