Cost Comparison

Cost comparisons between traditional parallel point-to-point wiring and solutions with AS-Interface show that normally the hardware costs rise slightly, that labour costs, on the other hand, are reduced significantly.

A typical example of an assembly automat is shown in the figure below.

The Hardware Costs contain the following positions: switching cabinet, controller including periphery, junction boxes, cable trays, cables and mounting material.

The Labour Costs contain: Mounting, Cabling, Test and Start-up, Correcting Faults.

If the labour costs are dominant part of the total costs of the automation project then the potential savings when AS-Interface is employed are maximised.
